Sara Levene is a Consultant Genetic Counsellor and a nationally recognised leader in the field of Genetic Counselling. Sara is the founder of Guided Genetics.
After achieving a First Class Honours degree in Genetics, Sara completed her MSc in Genetic Counsellor in Manchester, graduating in 1998 (one of the earliest cohorts in the UK profession).
She worked at Guy’s Hospital in London, based in the Regional Genetics Service, from 1998 until 2017. She started her career in cancer genetics as well as working with families affected with a wide range of other genetic conditions.
Since 2005, Sara has specialised in Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT), working with the Assisted Conception Unit at Guy’s Hospital, and then from 2017 – 2025 at The Centre for Reproductive & Genetic Health (CRGH) in London, a leading IVF and PGT clinic, where she led the PGT service.
Throughout her career Sara has led the development of carrier screening for recessive disorders, both in the UK Jewish population (alongside the charity Jnetics), and by spearheading pan-ethnic screening at CRGH.
Sara sits on the medical advisory committee of the charities Jnetics and Chana (providing patient support for fertility).
From 2018 to 2023 Sara was an elected committee member for the UK Association of Genetic Nurses and Counsellors (AGNC) and chaired the professional body from 2021 to 2023.
Sara now works as an independent Consultant Genetic Counsellor and founder of Guided Genetics: offering private patient consultations, and genetic counselling support for doctors, clinical services and laboratories.
Sara holds professional registration with the Academy of Healthcare Science (Reg no 17049).
