‘When you find the right path then the restrictions of your belief system change’
Penelope has a warm and encouraging personality and an unambiguous commitment to yoga. Her classes are inclusive and she encourages movement from a place of self acceptance.
Penelope went to her first yoga class until 1997. For four years she tried a variety of different teachers and styles. There was a pull towards yoga but, it never felt completely natural.
In 2001 Penelope discovered Gary Carter’s ‘Natural Bodies’ studio in Brighton where the legacy of Vanda Scaravelli’s work inspired the classes. These classes were Penelope’s first fully immersive experience of yoga and she started to practice this style regularly enjoying its mix of scrutiny and simplicity.
Penelope trained to be teacher with Unity Yoga in 2008. The Unity curriculum imparted a thorough spiritual teaching which, completed Penelope’s yoga panorama yet, Scaravelli Inspired yoga remains her prevailing drive and constant incentive for practicing and sharing yoga.
Vanda Scaravelli’s work provides a set of principles that allow the practitioner to arrive a their own experience and unbind themselves from habits. These principle’s are offered through traditional yoga poses but, encourage self inquiry, honesty and ultimately lightness.
Penelope has held a 200hr Unity Yoga training certificate and Calm for Kids Teaching certificate since 2009- teaching children and special needs adults as well as her regular classes and continues to workshop with key Scaravelli Inspired mentors including Diane Long.
Recently she trained as a Thai Yoga massage therapist and is now completing a 200hr Integrity Yoga Teacher Development Course which is an unmodified learning of Vanda Scaravelli’s work.
