I have always enjoyed being with, and talking to, people from various backgrounds and this led me to train as a social worker in Canada where I am from. Since then I have worked as a social worker in hospitals and community settings over a period of more than twenty years in Vancouver, Sydney and London.
When I had my daughter in 2006 I was asked to train as a breastfeeding supporter with the Breastfeeding Network and since then I have enjoyed helping mothers and babies to breastfeed at the Whittington Hospital and at UCLH in London. I have run groups in many of the Children’s Centres in Islington. Supporting families in their own home has also been a large part of my role for more than ten years.
I am now a fully trained lactation consultant qualified with the International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBLC).
I see breastfeeding as a public health issue and I also appreciate the trend towards mixed formula and breast feeding. I work with your goals and will support you to feed in whatever way works best for you and the family. If there is a partner I fully involve them because that other person can be instrumental in the achieving the desired family outcome.
